ShawChicago History
1994 Established as a program of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. Andrew Callis becomes Artistic Director Deborah Davis becomes Managing Director.
1996 Bob Scogin becomes Artistic Director.
1997 Outreach Program established Claudia Cassidy Performing Arts Series presented.
1998 Advisory Committee established First collaboration with Turkey – presentation of Kuvayi Milliye in Claudia Cassidy Theater. Steve Cardamone becomes Outreach Coordinator.
2000 Becomes an independent not-for profit theater company Office established Board of Directors formed Tony Courier becomes Board Chair Website established Irene Kogan arranges first Shaw Festival trip as a fundraiser.
2001 Don Juan in Hell presented at the Cultural Center Storefront Theater Full production of The Millionairess presented as a co-production with/at Next Theater in Evanston. Terry Gallagher becomes Outreach Coordinator.
2002 First production outside the Cultural Center, Candida presented at First St. Paul’s Church First Gala Benefit held at The Arts Club of Chicago Tony Courier becomes Managing Director Lois Baum becomes Board Chair
2003 Office moves to Ruth Page Center for the Arts. Becomes resident theater company at the Ruth Page Center. First production at the Ruth Page Theater – Jitta’s Atonement (Trebitsch). First Board Retreat
2005 Tickets sold for the first time. Barbara Denemark Long becomes Board Chair. Awarded SmART Growth grant by the Chicago Community Trust. $20,000 per year for three years. One of 20 arts organizations selected from nearly 200 applicants.
2006 Full production of The Devil’s Disciple at Ruth Page Theater Sesquecentennial celebration of Shaw’s birth at the Chicago Cultural Center In the Footsteps of Shaw trip to London and Dublin.
2007 Belinda Bremner becomes Board Chair
2008 Arielle Augustyn becomes Outreach Coordinator. Subscriptions offered for the first time. Mid-Winter’s Tales added to offerings.
2009 Receives MacArthur grant to perform Ghosts at World Theater Day in Turkey.
2010 Natalia Nebel becomes Board Chair. Awarded National Endowment for the Arts grant for 2011 production of Paradise Lost
